Propagating language settings to environment?

Hi,

I'm currently setting up a few computers with KDE for several 
unexperienced computer beginners. 

Some programs, such das Openoffice, do require the environment
variable LANG to be set properly in order to provide a user
interface in the user's language.

Is there any way to propagate the KDE language setting to the 
environment?
