Parameters and options for KDE apps

Hi all,

I have long been puzzled by the parameters that appear in KDE apps.

An example, I wanted to add Kghostview to the list of file associations.  I 
used the Control Centre, and I found that the entry was

 kghostview %u -caption "%c" %i %m

What are the significance of these parameters?  Is there any documentation?  I 
have yet to find any.
