Ah, I see.  
And I noticed something different, too:
This should have copied .kde3 to .kde3.1 directly after the upgrade
so a user shouldn't lose his config. 

Hmm, I still don't like the idea of having different .kde* dirs 
around.  Anyway, that's not a problem for me as I have only 
one version of KDE at a time "in production".

It seems Dan has even more problems.  
No idea what his libpng problem might be about...
