Hmm, I had the same problem myself with Mandrake 8.0, with a Blade3D, but then 
it was using the trident driver. I never thought to use the vesa driver... 
Try it :)

I grabbed a voodoo3 off ebay myself, since I wanted to play Tux Racer ;)
