You wrote it were two processes.
kdesktop can only be one of them.
Perhaps its some kind of loop between the two processes.

It could be a bug, though I haven't seen anything like this yet.
Which distribution are you using, which KDE verions and are you using 
binary packages or self compiled KDE?
