I don't know if you've used KDE for a long time (not me), but I think
Klipper IS necessary. In my case, sometimes after a copy I need to
select the data to copy in Klipper (even if the line is already selected
!) in order to paste them, even sometimes in the same application. I
don't know why.

I'm using Evolution (and Kmail and Mozilla for 2 others email box, to
test them !), and gpilotd runs only if I open the pilot settings box
(menu tools -> pilot settings in Evolution 1.2). Nothing to stop it in
Evolution, I needed to kill it, now I have a script to sync my palm with
the evolution database (by the way, the evolution sync doesn't work
perfectly :-((

In my case, the gnome-name-service doesn't run.
