kde 3 how to link ttyS4 to modem

    hi newbie here,
i get " can't open modem " when trying to configure kppp dialer , have 
tried to link the /dev/ttyS4 to modem but still get the error.
so please point me to some doc that will explain how to over come this,
also how to make ttyS* in /dev/ ? when i have no makedev program?
