When I plug in the cam, I get a cascade of messages in the console log inc.

Attached scsi removable disk  sda at scsi ...

Then a simple mount -tauto /dev/sda1 /mnt gave access.

IIRC, the device will only be claimed properly if the scsi emulation stuff is 
set up to see the usb properly. SuSE 7.3 coped with CDR ok, but fell over on 
the digicam. SuSE8.0 hooks it up fine.

One other thing can get in the way - does the usb type (uhci vs ohci [I 
think]) match the kernel module.
