kde 3.0.2/suse 7.3

The readme says that anti-aliasing is turned off due to "too many problems". I 
haven't had very many problems. How do I turn it back on? I've already 
recompiled the freetype library (did that long ago, haven't updated it) so I 
assume that isn't the problem. 

I'm assuming it is a qt problem. Do I have to recompile qt or set some 
environment variable or what? Setting QT_XFT to true didn't help.
