Why can't I connect FTP with Konqueror

I re-read my previous post and it may have been unclear as to what I was 
asking. I was tired when I wrote it. :)

I am running FreeBSD 4.6 RELEASE with KDE 3.0.1. on an i386 platform.

This is what I get connecting to *any* ftp site with Konqueror.

An error occured while loading ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/:

Could not connect to host ftp.FreeBSD.org
--

Any ideas?

Also running "make" from konqueror with the terminal emulation window open, I 
get a Connection refused error for every FTP site for that port.

"make" works fine from konsole shell and Netscape has no problem connecting to 
the same FTP address, just Konqueror FTP and Konqueror with the Terminal 
Emulation window open get connection errors.

Any ideas?
