KPPP

Hi
I use KPPP to dial up.
When I hit connect it immediately checks the modem and immediately moves 
to initialising modem where it hangs for at least 90 sec, sometimes more.
It then dials and cennects without delay.
Do I have a problem in the way I have set up my moden
