I think the options are the same as documented in
http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec.html#EXEC-VARIABLES

It's a KDE parameter, telling the environments envoker that the program takes 
an URL as argument.

If it is the same as in the .desktop standard, then it is very likely GNOME 
uses them for the same mechanism.
