KDE3: Strange Konqueror (Web Browser) Problem, SLOW

Hello,
I have a strange problem. I was working with the Konqueror web
browser (KDE3 Red Hat 7.2 RPM install), and all of a sudden (it
appeared to be all of a sudden anyway :)) everything started running
VERY slowly, and there was a lot of latency in input and output.

I went to switch to a vt1 to kill the offending process that was
hogging my cpu, and was having trouble even doing that, but when I
*did* get to vt1 I was getting kernel out of memory errors. Since my
box had been running for 10 days, I figured something was leaking
memory (I think it was my X server (Nvidia drivers, XFree 4.1.0)), so
I figured that I had better reboot (I have 512 megs of memory, and a
gig swap partition) than mess with it. I rebooted, logged into KDE,
and whenever I go to use the Konqueror web browser, everything becomes
slow again. The rest of the desktop seems to be Ok though.

I deleted all of my cookies, I deleted my cache files (in
.kde/share/cache), I deleted the files in /tmp, all to no avail. If I
try to go to ebay, I don't even get a page and it slows down until I
kill the kdeinit process that launched it. I can go to google, but it
does the same when I try to submit a form. I think it might have
something to do with the size of those webpages, though I'm not sure.

I can launch konqueror as root, and it works fine, so I believe it to
be a problem in ~/.kde/

This is very strange, I like Konqueror, and would like to use it, but
I have to use Mozilla now (which whilst not too bad, doesn't have the
split browser feature that I like :)).

Any help is appreciated!

Sincerely,
Caleb Land
