Font Hinting only in KDE 3.0?

Hi,

I've been playing around with fonts in KDE 3.0. Fonts appear to have
three controls:

1. Anti-aliasing
2. Hinting
3. Sub Pixel Rendering

KDE 3.0 does not seem to have anything to control hinting. I'm not sure
if this is an underlying X problem or people don't know how useful is to
get fonts looking good.

I found this Freetype test site on the web:
http://mbox.troja.mff.cuni.cz/~peak/ftdemo/index.cgi

With the test site you can select a TTF, size, enable/disable hint and
enable/disable anti-aliasing. Its interesting to play with the inputs
and see how the settings can really make a difference.

Based on my tests at the above site, I'd like to configure the fonts on
my KDE 3.0 system to be rendered as follows:

Fonts <= 7 point           : Hint and Anti-alias
7 point < Fonts < 14 point : Hint only (point sizes8,9,10,11,12,13)
14 point <= Fonts          : Hint and Anti-alias

Can KDE 3.0 control Hinting???

Greg
