question about taskbar

Hi,
 
I installed the KDE 3.0 slackware 8.0 binaries. All went fine and I
really like the new styles!
With KDE 2.2 I had applets working on the taskbar (weather thingie, etc)
and the current desktops + programs running showing, but with KDE 3.0
they are all gone and cannot get them back. I only see some arrow with a
small rectangle beneath it, but cannot do anything with that either.
 
Is this a configuration problem or?
