Style sheets guidelines?

Hi!

I am new on the list, so please be patiant if i ask somewhat allready be 
answered...

Are there any guidelines for the style sheets of the different selectable 
style themes (Settings)? 

An example: I wanted to create a table with colored header cells and if the 
visitor changes the style setting i would like to take care of it so that the 
color scheme is fitting. I would use an "id" option, but i have to be sure, 
that this style will be will be found in all the style sheets. 

For instance "newsbox1" and "newsbox2" are not defined in every sheet and the 
news lines do not have alternating colors.
