More mods of root66's design online ;) - Want we now a 1 or 2 sided menu ?

This version looks good, colorwise. I still maintain that the page looks
better with the menu on the left, and some sort of less important visual
element on the right side.

I like the diagonal line leading to the search box, but I think it's still too
prominent, especially at smaller screen sizes. Combo-box and double-arrow
widget are distracting. If we want advanced search functionality, it should
be a separated page, with an advanced search link underneath the main box.
Designwise, how about adding that diagonal line element to Neil et al's
design and moving the search box to the top of ?
What about have the right side be some kind of "Quickies" column, which are
not regular navigation items. Some ideas:
Featured App - App name, version, a little description (perhaps extracted from
apps.kde.com), other apps like this
Did You Know?
Tips, ideas about KDE for newbies
Overheard (user reactions to KDE)
These wouldn't really be part of navigating the site, so you wouldn't have to
scan the right side, but they would add some balance .
Cheers,
EE
