Opening files from the Dolphin file browser on Windows 7

I would like to use Dolphin as my file browser because of features like the split window. When I click on any file such as a .txt file I get the Windows "open with" window in which I select gvim as the program with which to open the .txt file. I see the icons on my desktop flash, then nothing. The file does not get opened. How do I open files in the Dolphin file browser?
