sound, configuring phonon?

Is sound supposed to work?

Kteatime/ktouch pop up "Unable to use the *Fake* Multimedia Backend: The 
shared library was not found."

After updating to 4.00.80 I have phonon.dll and phononexperimental.dll 
in bin and phonon.lib and phononexperimental.lib in lib.  Only lib is in 
my PATH.

Is the DirectShow 9 back-end available, if so how do I configure it?
