Excuse me for cross posting rather than writing different messages to

After considerable discussion, there is some support for two "home" 
buttons although I do not think that it is yet a final decision.

I have submitted a patch which is what I use on my system, but it 
probably needs some usability issues resolved and some changes made 
before it would be ready to commit.

The questions are:

   What should these two menu entries be called?

   What should the tool tips say?

   What icons should be used for them?

   Do we need new icons made for one, or both, functions?

   Is having the "local home" button assigned to the "Documents" path OK?

I don't think that using the house icon for the "web home" is a good 
idea.  We could use: "package_network" (globe) icon.  I think that the: 
"www" icon shouldn't be used because we should not assume that users 
will choose a WWW location for their "web home".

It is also possible to have the menu string and icon for the local home 
button change depending on whether it points to $HOME or 
$HOME/<something else>.  This would be "way cool" but I have to ask if 
it would violate the HIG since the icon and string for a menu item would 
change depending on the user's configuration.

Please make your suggestions and I will make appropriate changes to the 
code in the patch.
