Hi,

I'm Ellen who wrote the usability report. sorry for my late answer, I
just did not know this thread exists..

Actually, I still wanted to post the results somewhere but haven't quite
known where and had no time so far. I'm happy you found the report
yourselves and are so interested in the results :)

First of all: I don't think we should start removing too many views as
that will cause resistance - if not from the developers, then from the
users. Deciding for detailed list instead and against the tree view will
aleniate convinced tree view users, and vice versa.

That's why I wrote 'concentrate on three major views' instead of 'remove
all except for three views'. Probably, having a multicolumn and an icon
view is a bit redundant, but detailed list and tree view both have their
own and very special advantages.

Regarding the info list view I agree with Luciano that it is only useful
if a directory contains equal file types. We didn't test it, but my
guess is that less experienced users get confused by empty cells in
mixed directories and because the column headers switch too often.

I like the idea of 2 or 3 default views plus 'advanced view options'
that provide the opportunity to easily move favourite views to the
toolbar and to prominent locations in the menu.

For responses, please cc me or kde-usability-devel at kde.org

Cheers,
/el
