We are required to choose one person in the HCI group that is going to be 
the intermediate between the EV board and us.  I have the impression 
that that job brings responsibilities but very little influence on the 
procedings themselves. So a boring and annoying job :)
I'm very happy that Kenneth stepped up to do work in that department.

IMOHO backing one person at this stage in the process means we begin to 
bring in structure that can be refined over time.
This is different from what I read from your view above in that the 
choosing of the chair makes the process easier, but does not impair our 
ability to overrule his ideas.

So, don't worry :)
