We are making progress. It was not installed. I did install it and ended all
kde session. Logged in again. Results:
the existing account does not connect. No error message, no dump.

If you eliminate the existing account for a new one, it crashes silently, but
only the create account window (after the input of the password). 
I then tried to set up an account for a second time. This time it works.
Account exists. When I try to go online nothing. When I open the contact
list.....there is the warning "you do not have an account yet......." when
saying yes, it opens the account window and the account is there. But for the
system it appears it is not. 
Do you want me to post rmp -qla for getting a clearer idea about the system?
