KTp and Empathy share the same backend, it's telepathy-gabble for xmpp (gtalk
and facebook too) and telepathy-haze for the rest. Haze then uses libpurple in
the backend, which in turn is the lib Pidgin is built around.

I'm sorry to hear you still have troubles connecting. Just out of curiosity,
can you do the log-thing once again and see if you're still getting the same
error?
