What is the reasoning behind this? 

Removing the .desktop file means that user would have to open contact list,
find the contact, open text-ui and there click "Previous Conversations",
instead of directly opening the logviewer and just finding the contact. This
might get even more complicated when using "Hide offline contacts" in contact
list....
