You need Solaris 9 of april 2003.
LibXrender was introduced in the december 2002 version of solaris 9
but there was some bugs at that time. The 04/03 solaris 9 version
was free of these problems.

  it resides in /usr/openwin/sfw/lib  which is an akward place but
there is symbolic links from /usr/sfw/lib.

You'll need   a PATH to /usr/sfw/bin  and a LD_LIBRARY_PATH
to /usr/sfw/lib  anyway  because of the graphics and GNU / Free
ware utilities that resides under /usr/sfw  in solaris9.
