[kde-solaris] RE: kde-solaris digest, Vol 1 #390 - 3 msgs

Actually, I think it should use whatever is defined in
/etc/dt/config/Xservers (or /usr/dt/config/Xservers). I usually make sure
TrueColor is explicitly defined there. You may be right if you leave the
choice up to the Xserver.

About the only time I actually use failsafe mode is via a Sun Ray or
MetaFrame for UNIX. Sun Rays use True Color mode and MFU will use whatever
the client settings tell it to use. Sounds like I'm getting spoiled with all
of this 24-bit goodness!

Openwindows will use the specification of depth & color specified in
/etc/dt/config/Xservers, whereas the failsafe afaik will only default to
8 bit depth. If you disable dtlogin (since it's really unneccesary on
single user systems/workstations) using dtconfig -d, you can use the
.xinitrc from the console command line and just start X yourself using
xinit, i.e. xinit -- -dev /dev/fbs/afb0 defdepth 24 defclass TrueColor >
X.log 2>&1
