Hello all,
I have installed Frog's KDE 3.1 packages on Solaris 8 and everything is =
working great, but only as the superuser. When I try to log in to KDE =
from a normal (NIS) user account The KDE Launcher pops up, hangs on =
"Initializing Peripherals" for a while, and then the screen goes grey. =
At this point I am forced to do Stop-A on the machine and reboot it to =
recover.
I have set /tmp/.ICE-unix to permissions 1777 as mentioned in a previous =
email but that didn't help, is there anything else I should look at?
Where are the log files for KDE, maybe I can see what is going on if I =
look there.
thanks in advance,
A

I think this is a font path error. Take look at the xset command for =
more
info (e.g. xset q and xset fp). Try logging in via CDE and compare your =
font
paths to see what you are missing.

I'm running KDE 3.0.5 on Solaris - new install
Whenever I bring up a Linux Console in Konsole, I get this error:
"Font `-misc-console-medium-r-normal--16-160-72-72-c-160-iso10646-1' not
found.
Check README.linux.console for help."

Hello all,
It seems I have joined the ranks of kde3.1 compiler/testers
with mixed results.
Platform is Sun Blade-1000, Solaris 8, gcc-3.2.1:
After disabling XRender and Xft options throughout, I was able to build
a basic kde 3.1 environment. (arts-1.1, qt-3.1.1, kdelibs-3.1,
kdebase-3.1).
Now, the problem is I cannot start the desktop as a normal user.=20
Dcopserver barfs with the following:
_KDE_IceTransSocketCreateListener: failed to bind listener
_KDE_IceTransSocketUNIXCreateListener: ...SocketCreateListener() failed
_KDE_IceTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to create listener for
local
Cannot establish any listening sockets
DCOPServer self-test failed.
It seems a permission problem because as root I can use kde just fine.
Where should I look for additional clues ?
TIA,

In /tmp. Look at the permissions of /tmp/.ICE-unix. It should be 1777=20
(drwxrwxrwt).
