Try  Solaris9  patch  113098-04  ( the Xsun/Xrender patch )

and enter the patch number.  ( you will need to have a sunsolve account )

I Had the problem with disapearing Fonts on Solaris 9 12/02
using staroffice 6 in any windowmanager.
The bug was solved with this patch.

I am running Xft 2 / fontconfig2 / Xrender / KDE 3.1.1 now on
Solaris 9 04/03 / Sunblade 100 /Expert 3D Lite
Without any fontproblems.
