I always thought 'sfw' stood for sunfreeware, a way to explicitly indicate
this was opensource software. The companion software cd stuff gets installed
to /opt/sfw. And Solaris 8 and 9 also have a /usr/sfw (even without the
companion cd). If it is insalled as part of the OS then I would not consider
it to be experimental.

The Xsun included with the Solaris 9 12/02 MU now includes
Xrender support. The RENDER module is loaded into Xsun by
default, but libXrender.so is placed in /usr/openwin/sfw/lib
I assume to let you know that it is still "experimental".
