To make it easy for now, I used gcc. When I'm done with my dissertation 
I'm planning on switching to Forte 7 (maybe 8 by then) and Solaris 9 
R12/02 to use Xft2 and fontconfig, if that will be possible somehow ;))

One question though: is there a big difference regarding performance 
between gcc and Forte compiled KDE packages?
