Is there a pam module for those smartcards? kdm and kscreensaver can use pam, 
so this is rather easy. If you want to let the screensaver start 
automatically when the user removes the smartcard, you can write a little 
daemon, which regularly checks the presence of the smart card and which makes 
a dcop call if it was removed. Try this:
	
bash> dcop kdesktop KScreensaverIface lock
