Hi all,
I work with Johan on Gitorious - here's a short note on what we're currently
working on with the merge requests and notifications in Gitorious.
First of all, reviewers will no longer receive an email when new merge
requests arrive. Instead, we're introducing support for watching objects on
Gitorious: repositories and merge requests will be the first "watchable"
objects. Once you watch an object, it will appear in your newsfeed
(available from your profile page on Gitorious.org) and in a new Atom feed
we'll be introducing for every Gitorious user.
For instance, I (~zmalltalker) will have two Atom feeds: the one I have
today (which shows the actions I have done on Gitorious) and a newsfeed that
covers activities in objects I watch on Gitorious. So if I watch a merge
request, my newsfeed will contain all updates on this merge request, easily
available both on gitorious.org/~zmalltalker and in my Atom newsfeed. As
soon as I "un-watch" an object, new activities for this object will no
longer appear in my newsfeed.
Further, once a merge request is created, reviewers of the repository will
have this merge request added to their newsfeed. So: no email "spamming" of
reviewers.
