I agree that the user shouldn't have to use a web tool. Still to
create a kde svn account you need to use a web form too. The great
David Cuadrado has created a gitorious-cli app that allows to create
clones on the server from the command line. It's not as good as using
Git only but at least you don't have to go the web page every time you
to create a clone on the server.
The gitorious-cli could be extended for merge requests, new projects etc...

How do you like that?

I agree too that all this signing stuff is overkill, a network of
trust should be enough. If the kernel can do it this way I guess KDE
can too.
