honestly, from reading your post i don't think giving 4.0 another shot would
be all that helpful. perhaps 4.1 beta 1 or 2 (they are both good) or waiting
about another month for 4.1 release would be best.
kde got alot of bad press tagging 4.0 when they did, but i'm glad they did.
ppl aren't going to really starting using software in mass till it gets the .0
release tag. it resulted in more ppl using it, more bugs filed/fixed, and i
honestly believe a much stronger foundation today then if they waited. and it
got them back in 'release' mode.
4.0 to 4.1 is truly amazing. only 6 months. i think it must be a credit to
kdelibs and qt how rapidly it's developing. the foundations are there, the
rest seems 'light work'. try a 4.1 beta, then try to imagine another 6 months
and where 4.2 will be. heck, go back to last august and try every alpha/beta
whatever release kde put out and note the improvements over time.
i'm confident anyones issues with dolphin/konqueror/desktop folder just needs
time. and little time at that. plasma's folder view plasmoid is what.. only
a few months old. its improvement and potential are impressive.
the pillars of kde are all starting to come into place. they aren't there
yet, but its coming and soon. aaron deserves a hug from everyone, plasma's
future..... god, just give it time. amarok, koffice2, k3(4)b, kontact+akonadi,
plus all the other kde apps: on linux: on windows: on mac, holy crap kde could
rock the industry. at least give it a good shake.
it just needs patiences. 4.1 will answer most critics. 4.2 even more. a
year from now i think all these things will be bad memories. its happened
before.
