Yes - its OK for me, I do everything in the filemanager and hate a
littered desktop.
But having a plasma-widget showing links to folders would be nice...

I guess you will be surprised - the major mistake about KDE4 is in my
humble opinion, that there are releases tagged "official" at all. If the
stuff, that is out there right now would have a version-number like
3.9.3 or so, the anger would be much much less...

Though I also abhorr dumbing mistaked for usability I like KDE4 more and
more. In Suse11 it does not lack much of the features I need anymore. A
treeview and tabs and better/more plugins and of course an option to
save sessions for dolphin and a simple desktop-menu(like the one in
fluxbox) as an alternative for the new Menu and of course the good old
switching of desktops by turning the mousewheel and I am fine with KDE4 ;-)
