Which multimedia framework should I choose?

I did now. I'm a bit lost - is it at all possible to use effects like speed
control with the current Phonon? If not, then it's quite certainly unfit :(

Does going Phonon mean downloading and compiling all of KDE SVN at the
moment? If yes, wouldn't that be troublesome -- I heard it barely compiles,
if at all.

Well I'd rather not wait (much) if possible - better to let the world use
Katch right now, isn't it? Besides, my mother needs such an app (that's her
job) and she uses KDE 3.5.2 - no way to use a Phonon Katch for her, is
there?
However, I haven't formed a strong opinion on that yet.

I guess I would. I'm enthusiastic about it, only still have scarce time.
