yes, there certainly is much more corporate influence in GNOME development
than KDE development, and by a very small number of companies at that.
but drawing conclusions from that fact to how people feel about usability or
most anything else usually just doesn't hold any water.
sun pushed the writing of the GNOME HIG, but it was the GNOME community
overall that embraced that document. to achieve something similar in KDE does
not depend on corporate involvement (or lack thereof) but on a (small) group
of people actually deciding to focus on that work.
perhaps you are considering the fact that sun, red hat, novell, etc.. can
"force" their employees to do certain things. actually, i'm not sure how much
of that actually happens in reality within the desktop work of those
companies, but even if it does that is hardly a robust approach as the track
record of the proprietary software industry can attest to.
