That's how I guess most people started becoming KDE developers, looking 
in some problem they have a personal interest in. Scratching the 
itch ;-)

One area which could benefit from some extra support is kdepim, 
especially Kontact and its associated applications. It's an area where 
is quite some activity, but there is also lots to do. At 
http://pim.kde.org/development/bugs.php there are some links to kdepim 
bug reports. Maybe you find something which you would like to work on. 
In particular the "junior jobs" might be interesting.
