libkdesvgicons and fonts

I find that although the KSVG plugin will render client side fonts that
this does not work for SVG icons.

I regard this as a bug, but before I file a report which will probably be
classified as a wishlist item ... .

It appears to me that this feature is more important for icons than for
other SVG uses.

If the font is embedded in the SVG file as SVG paths, it can make a very
large file.

Such embedded SVG fonts do not use hinting which is important for rendering
in small sizes. If client side fonts are rendered with FreeType2 they can
use hinting

There are also license issues when embedding a font in an SVG file.

Was there a reason that the SVG icon rendering library doesn't do client
side fonts -- especially since the code exists in KSVG?
