And this is exactly why you don't understand open source software. Testing is 
done in public, problems are found and people get many levels of stability to 
suit them - from getting involved with alphas and betas, right up to 
commercially packaged software.

I agree that people probably should have picked up the fact that it didn't 
compile in some way, but who on Earth do you think does the testing?
