kdeprint and CUPS 1.2

Is there any way to get KDE to work with CUPS 1.2?  At the moment all
I get on a fresh install is 

 An error occurred while retrieving the printer list:

 Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server is
 correctly installed and running. Error: the IPP request failed for an
 unknown reason.

Once I set up CUPS for my printer with e.g. gnome-cups-manager it then
works fine.
