Missing/corrupt PPD files?

Hello.

I have seen references peppered through the archives about missing tabs on the printer options pages. All of these messages mention incorrect or bad PPD files.

I have a similar issue. My printer works fine. It's a Canon BJC 250, using CUPS and Gimp-print. Linuxprinters.org recomended using GIMP print with this printer. However CUPS does appear to have a PPD file for this printer. I guess it's a tossup which of those to use then. In the CUPs interface, I can select resolution and colour fine.

However, in KDE (3.2.1 on Gentoo) when I go to the printers property page, I do not get the tab that allows me to select resolution and colour. I discovered how to add/associate a printer with the queue, but when I get to the point that I tell KDE that I have a Canon/BJC 250, it reports that it is unable to load the PPD for my printer.

I'm sure I'm just missing something really basic. Maybe some misplaced files, but as yet I have not been able to discover what I need to do to make this final step. I'm sure it's a pretty simple thing, and when I see it I'll kick myself and say 'of course!', but for now it's been driving me crazy for two days.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

Jason
