Folks,

Hardware: Thinkpad R40 384mb-ram=20
=09Direct Network Printer HP 4100 via TCP
Software: Suse 8.1 professional
=09KDE 3.0.4 via YastOnlineUpdate
        CUPS printing
Problem: If the nework printer is installed in the system, any attempt t=
o=20
print from any KDE application causes that app to crash.

Details: I installed the above network printer using SuSE's Yast. A tes=
t=20
page printed fine.
However, when I tried to print from Kmail, Kmail crashed. Attempts to p=
rint=20
from Konqueror or Kate have the same result, even after changing drivers =
and=20
restarting KDE several times.
I opened the control panel and tried to configure the HP CUPS printer in =
KDE. =20
Attempts to access the printer profile cause kcontrol to crash. For tha=
t=20
matter, if the network printer is installed, kjobviewer will not launch, =
even=20
for other printers.

I tried reverting to the versions of the KDE-print and CUPS drivers on th=
e=20
SuSE disks (3.0.3, I think), without improvement. =20

I'm frustrated and confused. I've never had problems printing to HP netw=
ork=20
printers under SuSE linux before. Help, please!
