He didn't say it crashed, so that's half the if.

And for the other half, I can show you why Hayes provides more=20
functionality, not less. The ways include, but are not limited to:

1. Hayes uses KFileMetaInfo instead of its own system of gathering=20
information. If Charles finds KFMI to be lacking, he should fix it in=20
kdelibs where all of KDE, including Hayes, will benefit. Saying that KDE=20
is inadequate shouldn't be a reason to exclude KDE code from release.

2. Charles' SPL playlist requires you to manually add or remove files from=
=20
the playlist every time you download, delete, rename, or reorganize your=20
collection. Hayes does not.

3. Hayes integrates with Konqueror (both allowing easy opening of a=20
Konqueror window of a paricular music directory, and allowing easy=20
playback in Hayes via a Konqueror service menu). SPL does not. Charles=20
suggests that there should be a way to disable the service menu when Hayes=
=20
isn't on, and I agree, but that can only be fixed in Konqueror, not Hayes.

4. Hayes is very fast with large collections of music. Try using SPL with=
=20
a collection of tens of thousands of files. At least one of my regular=20
Hayes testers has a collection that big.

5. Hayes has a better DCOP interface. Charles hinted at this, that he =20
can't be added to the other Noatun playlists without breaking binary=20
compatibility.

6. Hayes is an optional playlist, not selected by default. Only a user who=
=20
actively seeks out the configuration, ignores the playlist warning, and=20
chooses Hayes will have the SPL replaced by Hayes.

But despite all this, if the policy is going to say that a maintainer's=20
word is final on his own app, so be it. But I would expect this policy to=
=20
be consistently applied, and not ignored when the maintainer is, say, me=20
disagreeing over icons.
