kmail serious problems

Hi,

not sure how to start this...
I'm using kmail since KDE 1, so for more than 20 years.
Since akonadi kmail has issues. Before that, I recommended kmail to others,
since akonadi I don't do that anymore.
But now it is seriously becoming close to unusable for me.
My main issue is the issue with duplicated, undeletable emails, I guess it's
this one: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283682
It has been reported in 2011, and it is still not working.
This does not only mean that some emails simply appear twice.
It also has the effect that the threading gets broken, since some replys are
sorted to the first email, some to the duplicate.
It also means I cannot delete many emails in one go. If I select a long list
of emails, and it happens that this long list contains one such undeletable
duplicate, kmail stops deleting the emails from the list of selected emails.
I have folders with thousand of emails which I'd like to delete, but I
basically cannot without a lot of try and error via deleting smaller and
smaller subsets of emails.
So in the meantime I have email folders with more than 50 undeletable,
"unread" duplicated emails and messed up threading.

Adding to that, since a year or so kmail started to put my incoming emails not
into my "inbox" anymore, but into the folder inbox/ToBeAnswered/. (at the
same time it also messed up all my filters, but creating the filters again from
scratch has fixed at least that).
I don't know why that happens, but my incoming emails are now in inbox/
ToBeAnswered/, I've gotten used to that. Sent emails it now puts into my
folder inbox/WatchList/.
(I'm still using pop3, if that matters).
I haven't see any such problems in other email clients or web mail interfaces.
This is so bad that I'm starting to consider alternatives.

I wonder whether you are experiencing the same problems as I do ?
What are the future plans ?
I mean, if the email client has such problems, to me this kind of makes the
whole of kdepim not a viable solution.
What keeps me from having a look at the sources to try to fix it, is the
complex architecture with akonadi, otherwise I would at least try to have a
look at the sources. Maybe I'm not the only one who is kept from contributing
by the architecture.

Are you aware of these issues ?
Is there something I can do to help (having only limited time) ?

Sorry and thanks for your understanding
Alex
