The most recent update / news on that can be seen at

https://euroquis.nl/kde/2020/01/13/google.html

Summary: in mid-january, there was some progress in kaccounts-provider,
but
KMail itself (Akonadi) is still stuck. It boils down to Dan's patience
and
time in navigating the bubbling slime pits and dungeons of Google's
bureaucracy.
