How long of an archive do you need? It seems I have mails beginning from November 2006. 41535 mails as of now, totaling to 245,3 MiB.

Would a tar.xz'd Akonadi maildir resource maildir folder work? If so how would I transfer it?

Only thing is they contain some additional headers added by my mailserver. I do not believe this would be much of an (privacy) issue as my mail address is in some mails anyway, but I bet it would be possible to strip at least some of those with some awk / perl / whatever magic. It may make sense to strip status which mails have been read as well, but that won't be used by the archive anyway, I bet.

Dunno whether that above one is from my mail server, could be from kde.org as well.

I would not bother with stripping Received header of my mail server.
