[Kde-pim] Akonadi not starting

I'm trying to test kdepim 15.12 but can't get akonadi to start.

I'm logged in under my own user in a standard Debian stable KDE 4.14
session, with KDE 4.14 akonadi running. I created a separate login session
as user 'test' (also using a KDE 4.14 desktop) where in a console window I
set up paths etc for 15.12, and attempted to start akonadi. The console
output seems to show that it failed to start mysqld. However, mysqld is
already running ok for my own user - a 'ps' shows the following mysql
processes:

root       788     1  0 12:30 ?        00:00:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/mysqld_safe
mysql     1191   788  0 12:30 ?        00:00:10 /usr/sbin/mysqld --
basedir=/usr --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --plugin-dir=/usr/lib/mysql/plugin --
user=mysql --log-error=/var/log/mysql/error.log --pid-
file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid --socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock --
port=3306
david     2054  2052  0 12:31 ?        00:00:56 /usr/sbin/mysqld --defaults-
file=/home/david/.local/share/akonadi/mysql.conf --
datadir=/home/david/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/ --socket=/tmp/akonadi-
david.M4IF63/mysql.socket

Before running akonadi, I deleted all files and directories belonging to the
'test' user whose names start with 'akonadi' - in ~/.local, ~/.config etc., to
try to ensure a clean start.

What am I missing to get akonadi to start? I attach the console output
from 'akonadictl start'.
