It is very early code, changed several times, so it might not be doing all its
originally intended use cases quite well anymore.
My attempt with the file store API was to make file access also asynchronous
(at least API wise) by default, but it got too complicated.
But it might be worth considering an asynchronous by default refactoring for
single file resource.
